Our man in Alabama

Looks like swapping pupils is a good idea in this small global village. While Keturah from Perth, Jill from Canada and Adam from Western Australia are here, we sent our local sports reporter Christoph (see last year's Ulricianum Times) to Alabama.

"Do you like it here or would you like to go back?" Although I always said that it was really great over here the true answer would have been different from that one 6 months or even  more

A touch of nostalgia

Focke Focken leaving Ulricianum for retirement.

The German, Sports and Norms & Values teacher, Focke Focken, came to the Ulricianum in 1973, after studying in Kiel. Next school year, 27 years later, he is about to leave this school, starting a new episode in his life. Is he looking back at the time as a teacher and co-ordinator with regret? Or, is there also a feeling of contentment? I interviewed Focke Focken to clarify these questions. more

Project 75 - or: who are the obsessed ?

26 members of an age ranging from 14 to 28, a teacher and lots of members of honour - that is this year's drama group 'Project 75'. Oh - did we mention the well organised democratic system and the omnipresent creativity? Madness reigns, but hey!, we are putting on Albert Camus' "The Obsessed".

But we know that she was born in Rostock. more

G'day from Down Under

by Keturah Mathers
So I've been asked to write something about Germany, Australia and being an ex-change student - not an easy task. Firstly why I'm here. A lot of my being here has to do with my sister. She spent '98 in Sweden as an exchange student and although she had many problems during her stay, she said that it was ultimately an excellent and worthwhile experience. As my dad would say, it was 'good character building stuff'  more

Look back in anger ?!?

Teacher is an absolute dream job, isn’t it ?!? Mrs Ilse Siefke has to know it: It’s her job – since a long time at the Ulricianum. In the summer we will say goodbye and pass her into the long, boring old-age

Pension. We think we’re speaking for nearly all who were her students: We’re afraid so !!!
