No Food Into the Tank
Interview with Matthias Groote, MEP, about CO2- Emissions

TUT: The German car industry complains that the EU only supports the French car industry. So what is demanded from the motorcar- industry by the European Parliament (EP)?
Mr Groote: This topic has been discussed in the EP since 1998. We demanded a self- engagement by the German motorcar industry to reduce the CO2-emissions of cars to 120 g/km until January 1st, 2008. The amount of reduction should depend on the type of car. Since the German car industry failed to meet this demand, the motorcar industry now has to face sanctions, which includes the problem that costumers will probably have to pay more for their cars.
TUT: Do you have any influence on the decisions made by the EU on this issue?
Mr Groo... >> more

Bachelor
Tracks through the jungle-path towards University were shown in yesterday’s speech by Mike Mühlhan, lecturer at Aurich’s Kreisvolkshochschule.

Especially the details of bachelor and master studies, credits and creditpoints were explained to all of the roughly 200 pupils of grade 12. Looks like the changing university system poses loads of problems and challenges to universities and students alike, yet the speech by Mr. Mühlhan was very informative and entertaining at the same time. The presentation can be downloaded from the school’s website (Sek II).... >> more

Aerial Publication of the German EM-Squad

"We have been looking for an attractive place which connects both of the event organizing countries in a geographic and symbolic way" said Oliver Bierhoff. The team of the 21 men squad will be announced in the glassy Panorama-Lounge 2962 on the Zugspitze. It was "a logical choice" for Bierhoff.

On May 16th 2008 Löw and Bierhoff will be lifted up onto the Zugspitze. "Germany's highest mountain connects Austria and Germany. You can see many crests of Switzerland when the weather conditions are adequate", said the team manager. "For sure the Bodensee was shortlisted as well, but typically you connect mountains with both of the countries, especially because the slogan of the EM is themed with "Bergtour 2008" A... >> more

A trip to Hamburg
On the 19th February 2008 the classes 10A and 10H with Mrs. Kleen and Mrs. Münch went on a trip to Hamburg. The course of the day began at 8 o’clock in the bus and lead to the “Deichtorhallen” in Hamburg.

While we went on excursion in the exhibition “American Beauties”, most of us were shocked about the different sides of the American lifestyle, which are shown in pictures by Larry Clark, Nan Goldin, David Hockney, Lisette Model, Karl Struss and Wim Wenders. The themes of the portraits and photos are different but they all describe the contrasting side of America to what most of the people think abuout it. Some photographs are about drugs in the lives of the American youth, other pictures are about people and their characters but there are also some about landscapes. Since 12 o’clock we had time to go in the city for shopping, eating, etc.. The highlight of the day was the musical “Lion King”. After getting to the musical... >> more

Lina Taube looks back to a year in India
“My family became furious when I started to do the washing-up”

Lina Taube (18 years old) spent nearly a year in India from July 2006 – July 2007. In the interview with Birte and Maren she told us about her impressions of the country and her experiences.

Where in India did you exactly stay? The city where I stayed for a year is called Aurangabad and is located in the northeast of Bombay, 300 km away. The city is quite small in comparison to other cities in India; about 800 000 people live there.

What was the most impressive experience you had? I think the most impressive event for me was the South- Indian tour we made in November 2006. It was a tour along the west coast of India. We travelled through the cities Chochin, Kanyakumri, Bangalore and ... >> more
