No. 2
- A letter to Prince Charles ...
|
|
Jawohl, wir haben
einen Brief an HRH The Prince of Wales geschrieben!
Anredeform "Dear Prince Charles" oder "Your Royal

- September 27th, 1989
-
- Your Royal Highness,
- we are a Grammar School in the north-west corner of Germany,
just 20 miles off the North Sea, and took part in THE TIMES INTERNATIONAL NEWSPAPER DAY
yesterday, together with
about 60 schools in the UK and around 25 all over Europe. After getting news messages from
London by mailbox all day it was our task to produce a newspaper within one day and have it on the market
today. We
succeeded in producing our paper and enjoyed the day
tremendously. In March 89 we took part for the first time
and were EUROPEAN PRIZEWINNER, were invited to the awards ceremony at the Science Museum and
presented a TANDON-Computer worth 1.300 pounds.
-
- The main topic of ysterday' s Newspaper Day, required by THE
TIMES, was "Environment". As Great Britain and Germany share the North Sea as our
common, we concentrated on
the current problems of North Sea pollution. Your convincing
speech, delivered at the 2nd International
Ministerial Conference on the Protection of the North Sea, was
centre of our considerations: What you pointed out in 1987
still has not come true today, neither in the UK nor in West-Germany. Our current German concern is the sheduled
incineration of toxic waste on the North Sea, to be started from Emden, a port 15 miles off our hometown next
month - on the other hand we had to learn from a Greenpeace-report that Britain still dump sludge although it
has been forbidden by the EC since January 1st.
- These two examples showed us that there's still a lot to be
done - on both sides of the North Sea, so your "Message
to environment" still wants to be realized in
practise.
- We hope that you don' t mind us having printed your speech on
pages 4+5 without asking your permission.
-
- Please find enclosed a copy of our newspaper and be assured
that we sincerely support your environmental attitude.
- Hoping for improved environmental conditions
- I am yours faithfully
Reinhard Donath
...and his answer

Naja,
sondern St. James Palace.
