Hi,
it’s me Marten; I’m here in Toledo/Ohio with Melissa and Hiram Crabtree. I
am in the 12th grade and will graduate from Northwood High School in May 2004.
I met Melissa and Hiram when they came to visit in July 2003. They came
to Germany for my brother’s graduation from the Gymnasium Ulricianum Aurich.
Two days after I arrived, Melissa took me to the Northwood football team. We thought it would be a perfect start to get to know some people from school. We were right and I made a lot of friends really quickly. There was just one thing, which annoyed me a little bit; many people said that I'm like my brother. The Football season ran from the end of August until the beginning of November. We had a perfect season and were titled the 2003 TAAC champs. Playing football was a lot of fun, but hard work, too. Because of the football practice every day after school, I am not home before 5:30 pm or sometimes 6 pm. When football ended I joined the basketball team and now I am considering joining the track team.
I have the same schedule every day, which makes school even more boring than it already was. By the way I have just 7 classes, C.A.D., English, French, HTML, Math, Chemistry, Government /Economics. School starts at 7:40 a.m. and ends at 2:25p.m. It is just a small school with approximately 400 students, but that's not the only reason everybody knows me. I'm the only exchange student here this year. Most people in school are very nice; just some people make fun of my accent, but that's alright, I think they sound funny too!
My school year is almost over and will end very early, May 30th. There are a lot of fun things that are happening in the next couple of weeks. Hiram and I are going to Chicago, in April we will go to Florida during the spring break and then two weeks later is the senior trip to New York. After the school trip is Prom and then a few short weeks later I become a 2004 graduate of Northwood High.
Even though the school year is ending so early, I will be staying with my host parents until the beginning of July, and spending Independence Day at the Niagara Falls in Canada.
It's hard to believe that my stay here is quickly coming to an end, and I know that I have a lot of great things that will still happen in my life, but I can honestly say that the year in the U.S. was and is one of my best experiences ever.
