Interactive Teaching at the Ulricianum
At the Ulricianum you have the possibility to learn with computers in the World Wide Web. The Ulricianum is equipped with three classrooms in which there are enough computers so that two pupils can share one computer. In each room there is a beamer for giving reports or explaining something with the computer. In the new school building of the Ulricianum every classroom will have three computers which are linked up to the World Wide Web and to each other.

It makes it easier to give reports with the help of computers and presentation programs such as Microsoft Power Point or Open Office Impress. The pupils do not need to worry about having their own computers or a printer for the transparencies. The pupils can work on their tasks at school.

There is also a web page which supports interactive teaching but not all of the teachers use the LoNet (the name of the page). On this web page you can login in a virtual classroom. There you can write messages to everyone of the class, can save your works, can chat with others of your class, can post in a forum about special subjects and the class has its own webspace for a homepage. The pupils who have a computer at home and who are linked up to the World Wide Web can work on there on their tasks. This is a little bit unfair, because not every pupil has the possibilities of a computer. For the teachers it is easy to look for the Lo-Net just in case new pupils come into the class, the teacher can furnish new accounts. Every pupil gets their own e-mail adress. For those pupils who forget their password the teacher get set a new one. For the class there is a checklist for the tasks and the teacher or a pupil is able to set dates for tests or something like this in a calendar.

It is faster to work with the Lo-Net and most pupils like it more than normal teaching.

Disadvantages are that the teachers are not able to watch and help every pupil and it is more difficult to keep the classes under control. A disadvantage of getting computers in our new classrooms is, that the pupils will not go outside in the breaks.

On our day of opened door there will be a group which will show the guest what to do with the Lo-net.
