“You always say that you are tolerant”
Johann Amos Comenius is the name giver for the Comrnius Project supported by the EU. The major aim of this Project is to create better understanding and partnership between students from all over Europe. Each year there is a theme on which the students may exchange their results, discusses the findings and their views about the whole project. On the end of the Project year a group of all students are representing their results on a final meeting to each other.

“Social integration of social groups” this is the theme of the Comenius Project for the current school period. The goal for this Project was to get in contact and to eliminate the prejudices of special social groups of the society. So the Comenius class (11c) from Ulricianum decided to divide the class up in two groups to get greater varieties of results and experiences from the students. The groups made a special social group to their theme. So the one group had the theme “Social integration of disabled people” and the other “ Social integration of prison inmates”. The group dealing with disabled people choose to paint the four elements on wooden pressboards with the disabled students of the Astrid-Lindgren School. The four elements are a symbol that shows all natural laws effects everybody in the same way, it makes no exceptions whatever of disability or not. The final artworks will be exhibited in both schools as running exhibition.

The other group dealing with the “ Social integration of prison inmates” had procured background information from laws, the youth punishment, social difficulties, to responsible institutions and many more. This had to be done to get concrete questions and ideas to the common work on the project with the prison inmates.
On the end of the project week the group arranged a visit with convicts. This showed that the prisoners which the group talk to really regret what the did and that the want to do better after the prison and they got to know about the problems that ex-convicts have when they getting out of the prison. One prison inmate will write a report and it will be on the Comenius Homepage from Ulricianum.
The whole project was a very good experience for all the students and showed them that they are not totally free of any prejudices as they thought.
