[ Dunkmann & Loose ] The man rushes along the way, in his hand a gun which could succumb an elephant with a few shots. He hears some steps in his back, someone is shouting: "Fire in the hole". Steps again. The man jumps behind the box next to him. 2 Terrorists are running past him. But at the moment the man wants to leave his hide, they turn around… "Enemy Down".
“Nikky” is throwing away his keyboard. This scene was taken out of the favourite computer-game "Counter-strike". And his enemies weren't any computerbots, no, they were Nikky’s two friends “Dendemann” and “madmob” sitting next to him. And all together they're sitting in a big hall with about 600 other computer-players who meet here for a LAN-Party. LAN is the shortcut for "Local Area Network" and means that all these 600 players can play multiplayer-games together. These LAN-parties became a huge culture in the last 5 years. Often prices of up to 25.000 $ can be won and over 800 people meet to play. They are not only playing, the feeling and atmosphere around them is also like a big party. But nearly no alcohol is drunk and everyone is friendly to his neighbour. But when they are on their computer-games, they fight like the worst enemies against each other. In real life they're the best friends.
The most players build “clans” to play together with their friends against other clans. For these clans there are even European- or World-Championships.
For example the Eurocup in Amsterdam.
The last Eurocup4 was won by the famous german clan “Schroet-Kommando”.
At LAN-Parties often games are played which were indicated for their bloody gameplay. This is the point where critics start to give arguments like: "These computer-games make the player aggressive!" But the most players only play these games for having fun with their friends and not for killing people at the Screen.
The best examples for this are the LAN-Parties.
OK. The gamers are shouting at each other very loud but they never use physical violence.
Even the Ulricianum is going to do a LAN-Party at the 15th of March.
Nearly 50 gamers are going to come.
